Biography

Mr. Gioia is a Senior Associate at Damon Morey LLP, practicing in the firm’s Business Litigation and Insolvency Departments. His practice focuses on business and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, matters involving the Uniform Commercial Code, and real estate and construction concerns. Although Mr. Gioia devotes a substantial portion of his time to litigation, he regularly advises businesses on transactions in order to avoid litigation. Mr. Gioia also enjoys working with local startup and more mature compnies, advising on matters of legal and business importance.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Gioia served as Confidential Law Clerk to the Honorable William M. Skretny, Chief United States District Court Judge for the Western District of New York. There, he served as one of two clerks helping to manage one of the busiest federal case loads in the United States.

While attending law school, Mr. Gioia worked in the White House, Office of Counsel to the President of the United States, during the administration of George W. Bush. There, he worked with the full staff of White House attorneys by providing legal research and internal memos of law regarding issues of executive privilege, requests for document production under the Freedom of Information Act, nominations to the federal judiciary, and presidential signing statements. He also volunteered with former United States Congressman, Thomas Reynolds. Mr. Gioia also served as a summer law clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Arcara, United States District Court Judge for the Western District of New York, as well as the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

In college, Mr. Gioia worked at the Republican National Committee as a research assistant, with the Bush/Cheney 2004 re-election campaign, and the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank.

Mr. Gioia received his B.A. from George Washington University in 2005 and his J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law, cum laude, in 2008. He is currently pursuing his M.B.A. at the University of Rochester, Simon School of Business.
