Gwitt As A Special Counsel

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Damon & Morey LLP is pleased to announce that Brian D. Gwitt has joined the firm as Special Counsel. Practicing in the firm's Business Litigation and Insolvency Department, his practice focuses on business and commercial litigation, including contract disputes, Uniform Commercial Code, corporate governance, intellectual property/trade secret litigation, bankruptcy litigation, real estate litigation, and debtor/creditor matters. A substantial part of his practice involves the handling of critical matters for businesses, including seeking/defending against temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, and handling other forms of emergency relief.

Mr. Gwitt has a multi-jurisdictional practice, handling cases in federal and state courts in New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Indiana, and other states. In addition to devoting a substantial portion of his time to his trial practice, Mr. Gwitt also spends time advising clients on how to resolve disputes outside of the courtroom setting.

A frequent lecturer, Mr. Gwitt has also authored several articles in national and regional publications, including two of note for the UCC Bulletin - “UCC § 1-102(c): Under Certain Circumstances, It Might Make Out-of-State Commercial Decisions Controlling Precedent” (September 2001) and “Section 2-716 And The ‘Liberalized` Remedy of Specific Performance” (March 2004).

Prior to joining Damon & Morey, Mr. Gwitt was a partner at the law firm Ice Miller LLP in Indianapolis. He was also an attorney advisor to the Honorable Michael B. Thornton of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C.

He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science and Pre-Law from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Buffalo School of Law.

Five Officers To Lead The Organization

 

Buffalo, New York – The YWCA of Western New York is pleased to announce it has elected its 2006-2007 Executive Committee. These members include: Barbara Schifeling, Esq. - President, Bette Smith - 1st Vice President, Yvonne Evans - 2nd Vice President, T. Nicole Grant - Treasurer, and Sue Sweet - Secretary.

 The YWCA of Western New York is the largest provider of child care services in the region. The local organization provides transitional housing for women and offers leadership training for women and girls. The YWCA of Western New York is also well-known for its programs promoting racial justice and the training of female candidates for public office.

 Ms. Schifeling is a Senior Litigation Partner and member of the Management Committee at Damon & Morey LLP.  Ms. Smith is a Group Manager in Sales Support for Verizon. Ms. Evans is a Supervisory Program Analyst for the Internal Revenue Service. Ms. Grant is a Branch Manager at Key Bank. Ms. Sweet is a Property Manager for the Main Seneca Corporation.

08/18/06 Damon & Morey  Partner Appointed as the
First Female Chair of the BAEC's Bankruptcy and Law Committee

Buffalo, New York Damon & Morey is pleased to announce that the Bar Association of Erie County has named Beth Ann Bivona the 2006-2007 Chairperson of Commercial & Bankruptcy Law Committee.   She is the first woman and the third Damon & Morey attorney selected to hold this position.

 

Ms. Bivona is a Partner at Damon & Morey LLP who practices in the firm’s Business Litigation and Insolvency Department. She works primarily with businesses and professional clients on a variety of commercial disputes and insolvency matters. Her work includes commercial, federal and complex litigation, debtor and creditor counseling, representation in bankruptcy proceedings, and financial workouts.

 

The firm’s Chair of the Equine Practice Group, Ms. Bivona also represents barn owners, horse owners, trainers, and riders on various matters involving contract negotiations, disputes, and litigation.

 Ms. Bivona serves on the Legal Committee of the New York State Horse Counsel.  Her professional memberships include the New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Bar Association of Erie County, the Western New York’s Women’s Bar Association and Delta Sigma Pi, a professional business fraternity. Ms. Bivona is also the co-author of the section entitled “The Effect of Bankruptcy Acts” in the New York State Bar Association’s 2006 Supplement on Collections and the Enforcement of Money Judgments.

 Ms. Bivona received her B.S. degree, cum laude, in Business Administration, from State University of New York at Buffalo in 1993 and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Michigan State University Detroit College of Law in 1997.

 The BAEC’s Commercial & Bankruptcy Law Committee deals with current substantive and procedural issues concerning bankruptcy law, the bankruptcy courts and commercial litigation in both state and federal courts. The committee provides ongoing legal education to its members while also serving as a liaison for the local bar to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of New York.
