Mr. Portin is a Senior Partner at Damon &
Morey LLP, practicing in the firm’s Business and
Corporate Department for more than fifteen years.
Mr. Portin has extensive experience in business, contract and corporate
law, and a wide variety of related legal matters. His clients include
large publicly-traded corporations, multi-state franchisees, local
businesses and individuals. Mr. Portin counsels his business clients,
supervises their company interests and advises them on negotiations. He
is also experienced in structuring and negotiating acquisition, finance,
commercial lease, joint venture, license and other commercial
transactions. Mr. Portin has a strong
reputation in the health law field,
particularly with respect to issues concerning hospitals, physician
groups, ambulatory surgery centers and long term care facilities. His
practice is concentrated in the health care regulatory field and he has
spoken extensively regarding health care regulatory matters, on issues
ranging from fraud and abuse to the withholding of treatment. He is also
experienced in representation of financially troubled health care
providers, reimbursement matters and physician joint ventures. Mr.
Portin has made presentations to the New York State Health Department
concerning “Proposed Medicaid Access Regulations” and to the New York
State Task Force on “Life and the Law Regarding the Determination of
Death.” He has also served on the ethics committees of two institutional
providers.
Mr. Portin is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, as
well as the New York State and Erie County Bar Associations.
Mr. Portin is a frequent lecturer on business, commercial leasing,
corporate and health law matters. He has conducted numerous seminars and
has authored several articles for Business First and the firm’s
newsletter. He has chaired several ad hoc Committees at the firm and is
presently a member of Damon & Morey’s Associates Committee, a position
in which he serves as a mentor to the firm’s associates.
His interests include foreign affairs, politics and history, and he has
traveled extensively throughout Europe and the former Soviet Union. In
the recent years, Mr. Portin served as an allocations panel Co-Chairman
and a member of the Agency Allocations and Review Committee of the
United Way of Buffalo and Erie County.
