Mr. Savino is a Senior Partner at Damon &
Morey LLP and the Chairman of the firm’s twelve-lawyer
Business Litigation and Insolvency Department. His responsibilities
include matters involving business litigation (including construction,
corporate and partnership dissolution, Uniform Commercial Code and
intellectual property matters), insolvency (both debtor and creditor)
with an emphasis on reorganizations.
Mr. Savino has been admitted to practice in New York (including all four
districts of its federal courts) and Ohio and before the Second and
Eleventh Circuit Courts. Mr. Savino is also the co-author of the
Commercial Law Section of the Syracuse Law Review, an annual
survey of the developments in New York State Law. Mr. Savino is
currently listed as one of
The
Best Lawyers in America© for Commercial Litigation by
Woodward White and named among
Upstate New York's “Super Lawyers." He
has been listed as one of Business First of Buffalo's Who's
Who in Law List for the past four years.
Since 1979, Mr. Savino has been Lecturer III at the State University of
New York at Buffalo School of Management for its two semester program on
business law, and, since 2002, an instructor at the State University’s
law School teaching commercial litigation. He served three years as
chairperson of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Committee of the Erie
County Bar Association.
A frequent lecturer, some of Mr. Savino’s more recent presentations
addressed: “Strategy and Tactics for Business and Commercial Litigation”
(New York State Bar Association, Rochester); “Dispositive Motions in
Federal Civil Litigation” (Lorman Education Services, Buffalo);
“Corporate Governance Litigation in Limited Liability Companies” (New
York State Bar Association, Albany and Buffalo); “Builders, Owners and
Lenders in Bankruptcy” (Erie County Bar Association, Amherst);
“Responsibilities of Design Professionals” (New York Builder & Developer
Magazine, Rochester); “Aspects of Business Bankruptcy” (New York State
Bar Association, New York City, Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo); “A
National Standard for Valuations” (ABI, Washington, D.C.); and “Advice
from the Experts: Successful Strategies for Winning Commercial Cases in
New York State Courts” (Erie County Bar Association).
In addition to speaking, Mr. Savino has written on the subjects with
which he is involved. For the Buffalo Law Review, he authored a book
review of Copyright, Patent, Trademark and Related State Doctrines by
Paul Goldstein. For West’s UCC Bulletin he co-authored The Supreme
Importance of the UCC’s Principle of “Uniform Construction,” the cover
article in its September 2001 edition. For the New York State Bar
Association, he co-authored the 1994 update of Collections and the
Enforcement of Money Judgments and two chapters in Aspects of Business
Bankruptcy entitled “Employment-Related Claims in Bankruptcy” and
“Pension Plans in Bankruptcy.” For the ABI he co-authored, “Valuation
and Standards: The Professional Appraiser’s Solution.” For Little, Brown
& Company, he co-authored the 1986 supplement to Business Law by
Professor Mark Roszkowski.
Mr. Savino is active in various charitable and civic organizations. He
is a past President (nationwide) of the University at Buffalo Law Alumni
Association. As member of the Steering Committee of the Western New York
Alumni Association of the University of Rochester, Mr. Savino co-chaired
its seminar "Canada in Crisis -- Its Impact on Buffalo.” Reported Cases:
